Every year we see staff and volunteers who put in a huge effort to make Road Worlds for Seniors a great experience for the cyclists. They organise, encourage and build a sense of community around the bikes. Crew of the Year is our way of recognising that effort.
This year the award goes to Plejecenter Rosengården in Denmark. As first-time participants, they brought together 41 cyclists who rode a combined 1,775.6 kilometres. Behind that result is a support team that has shown creativity and a real understanding of how much motivation matters.
Effort that was seen
One of their initiatives during the championship was “rider of the day”. A volunteer made two T-shirts, and the names of each day’s riders were written on them. The honour wasn’t reserved for those who cycled the furthest. Anyone who put in an extra effort could get their name on the shirt.
It’s a great example of how a support team can build motivation with simple, personal touches. When effort is noticed, more people have something to strive for, no matter how many kilometres they manage to cycle.
A community around the bikes
Throughout the championship, Rosengården shared updates on the cyclists’ efforts and team spirit.
Getting 41 participants on board and keeping them engaged through an entire championship takes planning and follow-up. The cyclists do the work on the pedals, while the people around them provide encouragement, a sense of safety and good reasons to get back on the bike.
At Rosengården, staff and volunteers have made their first championship a shared experience to be proud of.
Enthusiasm that reached beyond the care home
Rosengården’s participation also drew attention outside the care home, with coverage on Danish TV 2. This gave a wider audience a glimpse of the cyclists’ efforts and the possibilities that come with activity and community.
As organisers, we find it inspiring to see a new team embrace the championship so fully. Rosengården has shown what’s possible when cyclists are backed by a support team that is engaged, finds creative solutions and values every individual’s effort.
